Original art deco pochoir of stylish men in dressing gowns

€ 70.00

'Pochoir' is the French word for stencil, and this technique was very popular in the 1920’s and 30’s Art Deco era. First, an outline of the image was printed as a black and white lithograph and this served as a base layer. Separate stencils were cut (in thin sheets of copper, zinc, or aluminum) for every color component. Then each successive color layer, using watercolor or gouache, was applied to the stencil with a brush called a pompon. In short, the black lines and parts of the pochoir were printed (lithograph), and the rest was hand-coloured.
